KCR Programs : Adoption Services

Special Needs Adoption Program

The Special Needs Adoption Program began in 1989 and is funded by the Ministry for Children and Family Development.  Children under the age of 12 are referred to the program by their Guardianship Social Workers for adoption planning.  All children referred are in the Continuing Care of the Ministry and are legally available for adoption.  The primary objectives of the Program are to prepare children for adoption placement and to provide support to their Foster Parents during the process.  We strive to provide post placement support to those children placed in our community who have been in the care of our provincial government prior to their adoption.  Efforts are made to increase community awareness about adoption and support is offered to the various associations and chapters in the adoption community both locally and provincially.
