KCR Programs : Family Services

Supervised Access Visit Program

The purpose of this program is to ensure the safety and enhance the well being of children in the care of the Ministry of Children and Family Development who require outside supervision while visiting with their parents.  Referrals to the program can only be made by a Ministry Social Worker.

KCR maintains a roster of approximately 12 highly trained individuals who are matched with families requiring supervised visits.  Supervisors are employees of Kelowna Community Resources.

Their role is to:
  • Supervise families in a neutral, non-judgmental manner, remaining clear on boundaries and their role as supervisor not active participant.
  • Protecting the children from harm by acting as an advocate for the child (ren) if the behavior of the parent contravenes specific guidelines.
  • Encouraging and maintaining a positive parent/child interaction that may help a child with integration back into their families.
  • Acting as a role model and support to both parents and children to facilitate maximum possible successful interaction during the on-site visit.
  • Encouraging self-reliance through a helping process, which empowers families, children and community members.
